Are You Still On A Diet? {Recipe Inside!}

Dear  Beautiful –

Did you know that there’s research out that states the average woman will spend 40-50 years dieting! Wow!  Imagine what you could do with the energy that you are putting into getting down the first 10 pounds or whatever amount it is for you.

I am a testament to that as I was on a diet and lost and gained the same 20-30 pounds for decades. It did give me my passion and purpose in life which is to help women avoid all the mistakes I made so I have no regrets.

I was interviewed for a podcast yesterday and I discussed with her my food story and that’s what prompted this topic today.

There are so many lessons and we were discussing how stress affects weight and how it creates the opposite physiology needed to burn fat.  We never think about the chemistry that’s going on in our bodies as we don’t see it.

Stress is not only working too many hours but it’s over-exercising, eating too many processed foods, too much caffeine, lack of sleep and more.

The biggest point that came from the interview (I will share the link soon for you to listen soon!), is that we can’t jump from diet to diet because diets are a cookie-cutter approach and does not consider your body’s unique needs.

HOW DO I COME TO PEACE WITH FOOD?

IT’S ABOUT GETTING TO THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM-THINK ABOUT WHAT SELF-SABOTAGING, DESTRUCTIVE HABITS OR PATTERNS YOU HAVE BY OBSERVING YOURSELF, PARTICULARLY AT THE TIMES YOU WANT TO OVEREAT

That is what worked for me, hands down. There were repetitive behaviors and patterns I was repeating over and over that worked against me but I wasnt aware of it until I started doing the digging to figure out these patterns, bringing them into the ‘light.’

Then you are not following the trends from years past that are probably outdated and a one size all approach.

For example, do you have hypertension? Are you diabetic? Whatever the case may be for you, diets do not take that into consideration so that automatically will disqualify those people with special considerations.

The other thing is that so much science is emerging and we now know that food is information.  If you eat a 100 calorie Snickers bar, it’s not going to be processed and utilized in the same way as a 100 calorie cup of broccoli. Again, we need to break loose from the one size fits all approach as this solution is not natural and makes you feel discouraged.

WHAT’S LORNA UP TO?

I am back in the kitchen rustling up yummy, light Zucchini meatballs!

Here’s the recipe:

ZUCCHINI MEATBALLS

ZUCCHINI MEATBALLS

2 organic zucchini, grated
1 organic, pasture raised egg
Parmesan cheese or vegan substitution-Nutritional Yeast flakes
fresh basil
Almond meal (ground up almonds into flour) ground flax, gluten free breadcrumbs (which I used) or Panko
fresh minced garlic
Salt and pepper to taste
coconut oil or olive oil (I prefer coconut oil for cooking.)

FOR SAUCE:
fresh tomatoes or tomato sauce in a glass jar (never canned!)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Mix all of your ingredients for the zucchini meatballs. Take a small portion at a time to make into round meatballs.

Heat your skillet with the skillet with oil. Sauté your meatballs. Add your tomato sauce or just fresh tomatoes, exactly how you would for chopped meat meatballs and spaghetti.  It works baking on a baking sheet as well and coat the sheet with oil or use parchment paper.

You can take a Spiralizer and spiralize zucchini to serve your meatballs over or rice, etc. You can spiralize sweet potatoes as your ‘pasta’ as well!

They were beyond delicious!
